Stay informed during weather emergencies

Penn State Harrisburg keeps faculty, staff, and students informed of delays and cancellations due to severe weather through the PSUAlert system, Facebook page, Twitter feed and on the campus website. The college also provides information via the telephone voicemail system, e-mail, and automated messages at the college's main telephone number, 717-948-6000. Local television and radio stations also inform the public of delays and cancellations.

PSUAlert is an easy and accessible system that notifies users via e-mail or cell phone in the event of a campus closure or emergency. All Penn State students, faculty, and staff are automatically signed up to receive e-mail alerts via their Penn State e-mail address. An active Penn State access account is required for users to access PSUAlert and to change contact settings, such as adding e‑mails and cell phone numbers to receive text messages.

Although signup for the PSUAlert system is reserved for students, faculty and staff, members of the public are encouraged to follow alerts via Facebook and Twitter. Specific links for those who wish to follow PSUAlert messages on Facebook and Twitter are available at news.psu.edu/PSUAlert-social online. For more information about PSUAlert, visit the FAQ.

When Penn State Harrisburg announces a delayed opening time, classes and activities that begin before any announced delay time are canceled. Classes or activities beginning at or after the announced delay time will be held as originally scheduled. For example, when it is announced that the campus will open at 10 a.m. due to inclement weather, classes that begin before 10 a.m. are canceled and will not be held. In this example, classes beginning at 10 a.m. or later will continue on their regular schedule. Another example is when the campus would announce an early closure at 3 p.m. due to inclement weather. Classes beginning at 3 p.m. or later are canceled and will not be held.

Although classes and events may be cancelled or delayed due to inclement weather, the campus is still open to provide critical services to the students who live on campus, including housing and food. Police services and other emergency services also remain operational around the clock, regardless of the weather.
