Date & Time: Monday, April 20, 4pm-5:30pm, Olmsted C213
The Gender Hub is proud to co-sponsor the program in American Studies’ annual lecturer, Dr. Jan Todd. Dr. Todd is the Director and co-founder of the H.J. Lutcher Stark Center for Physical Culture and Sports and the current Chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education at the University of Texas at Austin (UT).
A leading scholar in sport history and physical culture, Dr. Todd has published over 100 articles and multiple books on strength training and its cultural significance.
Before her academic career, she was a pioneering powerlifter, widely recognized as “the strongest woman in the world,” setting more than 60 national and world records and helping to establish women’s competitive powerlifting. She was also the first woman in the U.S. to hold the title of strength coach.
Her work bridges scholarship and practice, shaping how we understand strength, gender, and the history of physical culture. We are thrilled to be bringing her to campus!
