Dr. Vanessa Diehl
Vanessa Diehl graduated from the University of Georgia in 2012 with a Doctorate in Musicology with a focus in American music studies. Dr. Diehl currently teaches courses in American music topics at Penn State University Harrisburg. She also operates a successful private piano and flute studio. Dr. Diehl has presented papers at conferences for Society of American Music, American Musicological Society Southeastern Conference, and the Pennsylvania Historical Association.
Dr. Adam Gustafson
Adam Gustafson is the director of the Music Program at Penn State Harrisburg where he teaches courses on American Popular Music and Theory. Dr. Gustafson also directs the campus choir, serves as music director for Penn State Harrisburg musical productions, and is the program chair of undergraduate humanities.
Dr. Gustafson received his Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Arts with concentrations in Music and Theatre from Ohio University. He received a Master’s of Music in Composition from the Music Conservatory of the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from MacMurray College.
In his spare time, Dr. Gustafson enjoys finding news ways to convince his wife to let him buy more guitars, spending time with his kids, fishing, and playing basketball.
Dr. Genevieve Karki
Dr. Genevieve Karki is an adjunct faculty member who teaches general music courses including World Music, Music History, the Science of Music, and Class Guitar. She is also the director of worship at Lampeter UMC in Lancaster, PA.
Dr. Karki completed her Doctorate in Musical Arts at Boston University where her dissertation research was on the self-efficacy of non-professional musicians with a focus on gender and cultural influences. She received her master’s degree from Duquesne University and her undergraduate degree from Penn State.
Dr. Karki has directed a number of ensembles, including the multi-campus choir at Harrisburg Area Community College, a community children’s choir, and she has also directed several musical theatre productions at HACC and Penn State Harrisburg. Dr. Karki is an experienced accompanist and she currently serves as the accompanist of the Harrisburg Gay Men’s Chorus.
