Research Update – May 2018

Articles recognized: Dr. Susannah Gal, associate dean for research and outreach, was recognized for three articles published in the Middletown Press & Journal by the Pennsylvania News Media Association 2018 Keystone Press Awards. The articles included “Penn State Harrisburg is part of the fabric of Middletown area”; “We can improve our community through just some little things”; and “I love my Jewish, Christian traditions at holidays.”

Journal article recognition: Dr. Marissa Harrison, associate professor of psychology, is the author of two of the most downloaded Evolutionary Behavioral Sciences articles accessed through PsycNET in 2017. Her articles “An exploratory study of the relationship between second toe length and androgen-linked behaviors” and “Anthropomorphism, empathy, and perceived communicative ability vary with phylogenetic relatedness to humans” ranked third and thirteenth on the list, respectively.

Faculty member named to national group: Dr. Xenia Hadjioannou, associate professor of language and literacy education, was invited to participate in a group whose goal is to update and revise the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) position statement “Read Together: Parents and Educators Working Together for Literacy.” NCTE supports teachers and their students in classrooms, on college campuses, and in online learning environments, and is devoted to improving the teaching and learning of English and language arts at all levels of education.
