The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time
Saturday, November 6, 2 p.m.
Penn State Harrisburg Theatre strives to make its performances and facilities accessible to all patrons. To broaden our accessibility, we are offering one designated sensory friendly performance. These shows – whether called autism-friendly, sensory friendly, or relaxed – are dedicated performances with a focus on those individuals on the autism spectrum or with other developmental or cognitive disabilities or sensory sensitivity. Sensory friendly performances are also beneficial for those with small children or those who are experiencing theatre for the first time.
The intention for sensory friendly performances is to provide a safe, judgment-free space that minimizes potentially triggering theatrical elements while maintaining the integrity of the production.
Below is a list of modifications we will implement for this performance.
Quiet Room
- We will have a designated quiet room that will be open 60 minutes before the show and throughout the performance for those who need to take a mini-break.
- We will have a live stream of the show in the quiet room to allow you to continue watching the performance.
- We will have fidget toys available to help calm and focus.
- We will begin clean-up of the quiet room 30 minutes before final curtain.
House
- We will open the theatre house 60 minutes before the show to allow more time for finding and settling into seats.
- Ushers will be available to help you get to your seat and locate handicap entrances and exits.
- The back of the house is open for more handicap seating and wandering.
- The house lights will be on at 25% in the back of the theatre to create a more relaxed atmosphere.
Performance
- This performance is designed to keep the integrity of story as much as possible. Only minor changes have been made to create a more relaxed situation.
- Sounds will be no higher than 90 decibels and warnings will be provided in a handout of any abrupt sounds that must stay for the story.
- Any abrupt light changes (i.e., strobing or moving lights) have been slowed or steadied as much as possible, and warnings will be provided in a handout.
A sensory friendly production handout will be available for patrons attending the Saturday matinee. We hope these steps enhance your theatrical experience at Penn State Harrisburg!
