Dr. Thomas G. Bowers, an associate professor of psychology, is a clinical psychologist who received his doctorate from Virginia Tech in 1984. He has research and clinical interests in a wide range of areas including neuropsychology, learning disorders, types of dementia processes, research on psychotherapy, professional issues affecting psychology and addictive behaviors. He recently has also been studying mass murders, violence and sex offender characteristics. He has published in journals such as Addictive Behaviors, Psychotherapy in Private Practice, the Journal of Studies on Alcohol, the International Journal of the Addictions, Psychological Bulletin, and similar journals. He has published approximately thirty peer reviewed works on a variety of topics. He has authored several chapters. In addition, he provides clinical consultations related to the assessment and remediation of learning and cognitive disorders. He is active in state and national organizations. He frequently presents professional papers at regional, state, and national conferences. He teaches many courses in the graduate program, especially courses related to clinical psychology, such as psychopathology, neuropsychological assessment, tests and measurement, and forensic psychology. He also teaches undergraduate courses in abnormal psychology and physiological psychology.
