An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detector, alarms that notify you when a child or pet is left in a hot car, and a search and rescue mini-micro-mouse that searches for survivors in a disaster zone are just a few of the innovative and creative student-designed projects that will be on display at the Penn State Harrisburg School of Science, Engineering and Technology’s annual Capstone Design Conference, on Friday, May 5, from 7:30 a.m.
Dr. Patria de Lancer Julnes, director of Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Public Affairs, has been named a Fulbright Specialist. She will travel to Thessaloniki, Greece in early May.

Eighty-three students from across Penn State’s campuses will each be awarded a $3,500 Erickson Discovery Grant for summer 2017 through the Office of Undergraduate Education. The students will use the funds to immerse themselves in original research, scholarship, and creative work under the direct supervision of a faculty member.
On Saturday, May 6, Penn State Harrisburg held its 2017 spring commencement at the Giant Center, Hershey, Pennsylvania. Approximately 700 degrees were conferred, with more than 530 graduates in attendance at the ceremony.
Shortly after the Penn State Harrisburg graduates on Saturday had found their seats on the main floor at the Giant Center, a woman began a chant. "We are," she yelled. "Penn State," the graduates yelled back.
