‘Post-Traumatic Slave Syndrome’ presentation Feb. 6

Dr. Joy Leary, a pioneer in the "Post-Traumatic Slave Syndrome" research, brings her message to Penn State Harrisburg Tuesday, Feb. 6.

Dr. Leary’s presentation is free and open to the public at 6 p.m. in the Student Center of the Capital Union Building on campus. The program is part of the Black History Month celebration at Penn State Harrisburg and is supported by a Student Activity Fee grant and the college’s Diversity and Educational Equity Committee.

Lancaster artist’s work on exhibit in Morrison Gallery

"Paradise" is the title of an exhibit of 39 figurative oil paintings by Lancaster artist Kurt Knobelsdorf on public display through March 9 in the Morrison Gallery of Penn State Harrisburg’s library.

The exhibit is free. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5p.m. Friday. Free and open to the public. For information, phone 717-948-6029.

Doctoral Programs Information Night Feb. 7

Area residents can learn how to fit doctoral study at Penn State Harrisburg into a busy schedule at an Information Night Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m.

The session in the campus library will provide information on the D.Ed. in Adult Education and Ph.D. in Public Administration offered on the Penn State Harrisburg campus. Registration is not necessary.

Those attending will have an opportunity to speak with faculty and meet current students in the two programs.

Penn State, The Lancaster Center Grand Opening Jan. 18

Penn State, The Lancaster Center is celebrating its grand opening Thursday, Jan. 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at its new location at 1383 Arcadia Road in the recently expanded Farm and Home Center. Visit the new facility and discover what Penn State has to offer in Lancaster. The public is invited to attend.

African American Read-In comes to campus Feb. 5

The public is invited to participate in the 18th annual National African American Read-In when it comes to Penn State Harrisburg Monday, Feb. 5.

The event will be in the Oliver LaGrone Cultural Arts Center of Olmsted Building from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Participants read a short story, poem, or literary piece written by an African American writer. Books will be available or those taking part can bring their own selection.

18th Annual High Achievers Academic Bowl on campus March 22

Teams from eight area schools will square off when the High Achievers Academic Bowl returns to the Penn State Harrisburg campus for the eighteenth year on Thursday, March 22.

The event, sponsored by the Penn State Office of Multicultural Recruitment and Community Affairs, will be from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Student Center of the Capital Union Building. The program is free and open to the public.

$1.65 million grant funding long-term care study

The Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare (DPW) has asked a research team at Penn State Harrisburg to develop and implement a plan to explore issues related to current and projected participation in long-term care services.

‘Clean’ comedy comes to campus January 24

Tiny Glover brings his crowd-pleasing, "clean" comedy to Penn State Harrisburg Wednesday, Jan. 24.

The performance by the veteran comedian is free and open to the public at 9:30 p.m. in the Community Center of the student housing complex east of Olmsted Building on campus.

Performances to celebrate Black History Month

Performances by an award-winning slam poet and an African dance and drum ensemble, and an appearance by "Frederick Douglass" highlight Penn State Harrisburg’s February observance of Black History Month.

All performances are free and open to the public.

The community is invited to participate in the National African American Read-In on campus at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5 as the month-long campus celebration begins.
