Richard Barger honored by Beta Gamma Sigma

Richard M. Barger, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries, is the Penn State Harrisburg chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma 2007 Distinguished Honoree.

Barger was honored at the recent induction ceremony of the student chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honor society for undergraduate and graduate business students.

29 students inducted into business honor society

Twenty-nine undergraduate and graduate students in Penn State Harrisburg&s School of Business Administration have achieved excellence in their studies and earned 2007 invitations to Beta Gamma Sigma membership for the academic year.

Beverly Cigler honored by House of Representatives

For her recent induction as a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration, Penn State Harrisburg Professor of Public Policy and Administration Beverly Cigler has been honored by the state’s House of Representatives.

Faculty member’s book looks at customer service

Poor customer service has been a subject of attention across all professions and industries — in both the private and nonprofit sectors. Corporate leaders have long known the value of customer support and even public agency leaders increasingly recognize the need to offer better service to citizens.

Faculty and staff applauded at awards convocation

 

Six faculty members and two staffers were names recipients of major college honors as part of Penn State Harrisburg’s annual Awards Convocation March 27.

The award winners included:

  • Associate Professor of Criminal Justice Shaun L. Gabbidon — Excellence in Research and Scholarly Activity Award;

International Film Festival begins April 19

"Passion, for Better or Worse!" is the theme of Penn State Harrisburg’s popular public International Film Festival which begins an eight-movie run Thursday, April 19.

The seventh annual series, free and open to the public, is hosted by the college’s School of Humanities and features films from Spain, Argentina, Norway, Iran, France, Germany, China, and Japan.

All showings are at 7 p.m. in the Olmsted Building Auditorium.

Penn State Harrisburg honored 14 faculty members at its 2007 Publishing Celebration March 22..

Sponsored by the college’s Office of Research and Graduate Studies, the annual event honors faculty, staff, and students whose works have been published in the past year.

Honored at the 2007 celebration, the titles of their works, and the publisher were:

Undergraduate Programs Information Day April 14

Information on all the undergraduate study opportunities at Penn State Harrisburg will be available when the College hosts an Information Open House beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 14.

Penn State Harrisburg is home to two associate and 30 baccalaureate degrees and the first two years of study leading to more than 160 undergraduate majors available throughout the Penn State system — including 29 of its own.

Student Research Day April 13

Penn State Harrisburg will celebrate Student Research Day Friday, April 13 with 27 students presenting on their efforts.

The day-long event in the Gallery Lounge will also include poster presentations from additional students in graduate programs at the college.

Faculty, staff, and students are invited to visit the Gallery Lounge throughout the day as faculty and student discuss their important academic contributions to the college community.
