Penn State Harrisburg has made sweeping changes to its undergraduate humanities program to provide students with more flexibility to tailor the program to their interests, and to offer a more robust presence in the fields of history, philosophy, and the arts.
Penn State Harrisburg’s International Study Tours provide students an exciting opportunity to travel the world and learn about different countries through first-hand experience.
In spring 2016, Penn State Harrisburg is offering study tours to Spain, Greece, London, India, and Peru.
To kick off Penn State Harrisburg’s 2015-16 academic year “Sustainability” lecture series, Garrett EVAN BANE Thompson will present “Sustainability: Outside the Box,” a performance and discussion that focuses on the global impact of music, its sustainability from one continent to another through multiple music genres, and how it is presented today as “hip hop.”
Joseph Hirt will present “A Survivor’s Plea,” as part of the Penn State Harrisburg Center for Holocaust and Jewish Studies speaker series, on Thursday, October 22 at noon in the library Morrison Gallery on campus.
Dr. Brad R. Woods, research ethics educator at Penn State’s Office for Research Protections, will present “Scholarship and Research Integrity Requirements (SARI)@PSU” on Wednesday, October 21 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Olmsted Building Gallery Lounge on campus.
This session is suitable for those familiar with SARI@PSU and those who are new to Penn State.
Penn State Harrisburg will host an Undergraduate Open House on Saturday, October 17 at 9 a.m. in the Capital Union Building on campus.
The event will provide information to prospective students about the college’s more than 30 bachelor’s degree programs, as well as options for completing the first two years of study leading to more than 160 undergraduate majors offered throughout Penn State.
Dr. Juliette Tolay, assistant professor of political science in Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Public Affairs, will present “Is there a European refugee crisis? A conversation on the context of contemporary human mobility” on Wednesday, October 14 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Olmsted Building Gallery Lounge.
While at Penn State Harrisburg, 2015 graduate Cindy Withjack took “Writing for the Web,” a course taught by Dr. Rodney Zink. “This course was a major catalyst in the creation of my blog,” she said. With Dr. Zink’s guidance, she said she turned, “I should really make a blog” into “I finally made a blog!” Cindy currently blogs on writing, books, and lifestyle.
For college students, an internship is a major rite of passage during their studies. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, 61 percent of the class of 2014 participated in at least one internship or co-op during college. Internships provide students real world work experience that can be crucial to their future success in securing a full-time job, they can also help students decide their career path by “test driving” different positions.
