Penn State Harrisburg chef wows at culinary conference

In June, David Cramer, a chef at Penn State Harrisburg’s Stack’s food court, was one of eight Penn State chefs to win  a culinary competition at the 2013 Chef Culinary Conference in Amherst, Mass. The group, along with a chef from the University of Massachusetts, competed in the California Asian Fusion Challenge sponsored by Johnson & Wales.

Scholarship helps foster professional collaboration

Penn State Harrisburg graduate Oscar Beisert, ’07 master’s in American studies, received the Irwin Richman Scholarship in American Studies during the 2006-07 academic year, but the reward he received went beyond just a monetary supplement – it helped him advance his career in the years to follow. The experience helped the student form a working relationship with Dr. Irwin Richman himself, a professor emeritus of American studies and history and, along with his wife Dr. M. Susan Richman, associate professor emerita of mathematical sciences, a donor to the college.

Alumna receives University achievement award

Penn State Harrisburg alumna Susan E. Dickinson, of Mechanicsburg, Pa., was recognized with the 2013 Penn State Alumni Association’s Alumni Achievement Award. She is the sixth Penn State Harrisburg graduate to receive this honor.

Two non-profit agencies tap Penn State Harrisburg PR students for local campaigns

An estimated 55,000 undergraduate college students are living in the greater Harrisburg area.

Nonprofit agencies like the American Red Cross and Central Pennsylvania Food Bank see these students as a vast untapped resource - and the next generation of volunteers.

Both agencies had targeted college students for volunteer recruitment, but neither had an effective strategy for how to reach them.
