Program Goals and Objectives

  • Goal 1: Think critically about materials from varied Humanities' disciplines and points of view.
    • Objective 1.1: Write analytical and interpretive essays that effectively integrate the perspectives of two or more Humanities’ disciplines.
    • Objective 1.2: Comprehend, interpret, and evaluate visual and written texts.               
  • Goal 2: Write and speak clearly and persuasively about complex subjects involving multiple Humanities’ disciplines and perspectives.
    • Objective 2.1:  Demonstrate the ability to use spoken, written, and visual language to communicate complex ideas. 
    • Objective 2.2:  Employ a wide range of strategies to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
  • Goal 3:  Understand the methods, approaches, and significant content of several disciplines within the Humanities.
    • Objective 3.1:  Identify and assess a variety of interpretive methods in the Humanities.
    • Objective 3.2:  Effectively employ a variety of the interpretive methods in the Humanities in written work and oral presentations.
    • Objective 3.3:  Explain and analyze the relationship between texts and the historical periods that produced them. 
  • Goal 4:  Demonstrate the ability to conduct in-depth research in the Humanities.
    • Objective 4.1:  Locate, evaluate, and interpret major scholarship in the Humanities.
    • Objective 4.2:  Demonstrate understanding of significant questions and problems in the Humanities.
    • Objective 4.3:  Integrate source materials effectively into essays on a variety of topics.
  • Goal 5:  Apply and extend their understanding effectively in internships, employment, further academic or professional study, creative work, or voluntary activity after graduation.
