Mentor Application - New and Renewing

mentorsThe Global Lions Mentor Program has the purpose to assist international students with their transition into Penn State Harrisburg campus and community life. Peer Mentors are volunteers and may be American or International students.  Mentors will be paired with 1-3 new International students for one semester. 

To apply to be (or continue as) a Global Lion Mentor, please complete all questions on the application. New mentors are expected to attend a mandatory training session. Questions may be directed to Wendy Moynihan, wam5190@psu.edu or Dorca Kisare-Ressler, dvk10@psu.edu.

Eligibility and Requirements: To become or continue as a mentor you must be a current PSH student with a GPA of 2.5 or greater (New mentors: If you do not have your grades yet, don’t worry, you may still apply). You must also be interested and committed in helping international students.

There are different Global Lion Mentor roles and required commitments, such as, constant mentor, activities mentor, or email mentor, among others. International Students Support Office will provide more information on the training sessions. You will be receiving a follow up email asking for your availability throughout the week.

I hereby agree that if I am selected to be a Global Lion Mentor, I will perform the required tasks to the best of my ability:

  • To assist international students with their transition into Penn State Harrisburg life.
  • To attend training session, meetings, events, and retreats.
  • To act accordingly to the Mentor Handbook, International Students Support Office (ISSS), and Penn State Harrisburg Student Handbook rules and guidelines.
  • To refrain from alcohol and drug use during my assignment as a mentor per student conduct code at http://studentaffairs.psu.edu/conduct/
  • To contact ISSS in case of any problems.

I understand that if I do not follow the agreement, I will not be given volunteer hours, references, and will be asked to relinquish my role as a mentor and my mentee will be notified.
