I spent several years in a successful microbiology career before I decided to get my master’s degree. I specifically chose Penn State Harrisburg because I wanted the opportunity to study with Dr. Katherine Baker, who is known for her environmental microbiology research. Under her tutelage, I earned a degree in environmental pollution control, mastered laboratory techniques, and developed problem solving abilities that I use every day in my current position.
The environmental pollution control program's greatest strength is its multidisciplinary approach to environmental engineering. This breadth gave me the opportunity to take courses with Dr. Shirley Clark. I greatly enjoyed her engineering and environmental risk assessment courses.
After I graduated with my master's degree, I became the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Laboratory Manager at Penn State Berks. I also work as an adjunct instructor in microbiology and biology courses there. The environmental pollution control program changed my life and I now have a career in academia..

I graduated from Penn State Harrisburg in 2017. The environmental engineering and environmental pollution control programs here are very competitive. All the courses are very useful for future industrial work and are work-oriented. The professors at Penn State Harrisburg are very helpful and talented. The program has a pilot-scale water treatment plant in our lab. Students can learn real industrial knowledge from school. In addition, we have master’s students working in the lab with great supervision from their supervisor. People on campus are very close to each other and the campus offers great services to students regarding job hunting and community service. For me, it was a great experience in my life.

The master's program in environmental pollution control has been invaluable to my personal growth and career development. This program has competent and dedicated faculty who are always willing to help students excel in their areas of interest. This program is also relatively small, which provides students with excellent opportunity to receive individual attention from top-notch professors. I am very grateful for my educational experience at Penn State Harrisburg.
