Penn State Harrisburg graduate student Cheryl Woodruff Brooks discovered images of Chicken Bone Beach, which led her to research the people who patronized the beach and the neighborhood that ran alongside the beach, the Northside.

Chicken Bone Beach was a major attraction for blacks in the 1930s through 1960s.

Sammy Davis Jr. was just one of many celebrities who frequented Chicken Bone Beach.  He is shown enjoying champagne with friends and fans.

Civic leaders, like Martin Luther King Jr. (shown here), enjoyed Chicken Bone Beach with their families.
