Ethnography and Society covers social groups, scenes and settings, movements, and processes of American experience and their cultural connections. Ethnography refers to the analysis of social scenes and symbolic communication in small groups. Under the heading of society, students examine race, ethnicity, gender, class, age, religion, occupation, and sexuality. Located in a region with diverse communities and traditions, the American Studies Program at Penn State Harrisburg often encourages students to conduct fieldwork and use the area for case studies and resources.
