The English as a Second Language (ESL) Program Specialist Certificate program is designed for undergraduate education candidates seeking a better understanding of linguistically diverse PreK-12 classrooms. The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE)-approved certificate program is intended to equip candidates with a greater awareness of the benefits of having English language learners in the classroom, as well as to prepare them with skills and strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners in mainstream content classrooms.
Who Should Enroll
The program is completed by undergraduate education students along with their degree programs in Elementary Education (PreK-4 or 4-8) or Secondary Education in English, Math, or Social Studies. Specifically, the program will benefit education majors with complete preparation for the culturally and linguistically diverse learners that are present in most PreK-12 classrooms in Pennsylvania.
A graduate-level certificate is available for current PreK-12 educators and to candidates in the Master's in Teaching and Curriculum Program.
This program is recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).
