MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — As part of the Penn State Reads campaign for the 2017-18 year, Penn State Harrisburg is kicking off the celebration from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, in the Morrison Gallery library.
Penn State Reads, a common reading program, is a collaborative initiative for first-year students that runs complementary to New Student Orientation. The program supplies each first-year student with a copy of the chosen book to provide a shared experience and aims to encourage intellectual engagement within and beyond the classroom, stimulate critical thinking, and foster a deeper connection to Penn State’s mission and core values.
“It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War" by Pulitzer Prize-winning American photojournalist Lynsey Addario is the 2017-18 book selection.
Addario traveled to Afghanistan to document life and oppression of women living under the Taliban. Over the past 15 years, Addario has covered every major conflict and humanitarian crisis of her generation.
“It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War” is a memoir that chronicles her personal and professional life as a photojournalist coming of age in the post-9/11 world.
Throughout the fall semester, there will be additional Penn State Reads events including a virtual book club, panel discussion, a virtual photo contest, and more.
