The certificate in homeland security and defense is embedded in the master of professional studies in homeland security. The interdisciplinary nature provides a solid graduate-level education for managers and practitioners in the field of homeland security or emergency management. The curriculum aims to prepare participants by teaching about:

  • major legislation shaping homeland security policy
  • key actors and their interactions
  • planning and organizational imperatives related to homeland security or emergency management
  • impact of catastrophic events on society and domestic and global economies

The 12 credits earned in the homeland security and defense certificate may be applied toward the 33-credit master of professional studies in homeland security base program.
