Joseph E. Wasiak Jr. is the Assistant Executive Director of the Public School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS) responsible for the daily operational support of the pension system for Pennsylvania’s school employees, a position he has held since 2007.  Prior to that he worked for two years in the office of the commanding general of the Pennsylvania National Guard, Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, and prior to that he served 30 years on active duty with the U.S. Army from which he retired in 2005.  While on active duty he served in various command and staff positions from the tactical platoon level to strategic multinational headquarters.  In addition to numerous operational assignments with troop units both in the United States and abroad, he has served as faculty at the Army’s Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and the Army War College in Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.  Both are courses of instruction at the post graduate level.   His final assignment on active duty prior to retirement was as the Inspector General for the Pennsylvania National Guard. 

Mr Wasiak holds a BS from the United States Military Academy at West Point and an MA in Business from Webster University.  He is also a graduate of the Army’s Command and General Staff College and the Army War College.  He is married to the former Jennifer Lynn Blum and they have three children and four grandchildren.  He is a rated Army aviator and a member of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) and the Army War College Foundation.  He is also a certified professional clubmaker and a member of the Golf Clubmakers Association
