Students lend expertise to help address affordable housing in Harrisburg

Affordable housing is a hot topic among Harrisburg city officials, as developers often prefer to build new homes for high end buyers. Nine Penn State Harrisburg students in Jane Beckett-Camarata's master's level capstone course in public administration at Penn State Harrisburg presented their research on the issue to the Harrisburg City Council twice this spring and participated in a wide-ranging affordable housing panel discussion in the city.

$2.5M gift to create the Pollock Center for Addiction Outreach and Research

Penn State Harrisburg has received a gift of $2.5 million from the Douglas W. Pollock Foundation to establish the Douglas W. Pollock Center for Addiction Outreach and Research on its campus. The center will address two areas of the substance abuse problem within the central Pennsylvania region, while serving as a catalyst to enhance communications and align numerous agencies and organizations in efforts to combat substance abuse.

Alternative Spring Break takes student service abroad for Harrisburg students

The lush greenery, turquoise waves, and friendly communities of Puerto Rico greeted ten Penn State Harrisburg students at the beginning of spring break in March of this year for the second annual Alternative Spring Break. This year’s group traveled to the island to aid in continuing relief efforts following the devastation of Hurricane Maria.
