Dr. Simon Bronner, Distinguished Professor of American Studies and Folklore at Penn State Harrisburg, received the Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools (NAGS) Graduate Faculty Teaching Award.
An anonymous note was found today in the Penn State Harrisburg Olmsted Building alleging that there was a bomb in the building that would explode at 1:00 p.m. The note was found at approximately 12:50 and campus police immediately evacuated the building. A search for suspicious items and explosive devices was conducted and nothing was found.
The building was re-opened at approximately 1:30 p.m.
An estimated 120 ninth graders from six area schools will receive an in-depth look at careers related to math and science when Penn State Harrisburg hosts its annual Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Career Launch on May 7.

Penn State Harrisburg senior public policy major Michael Passiment, of Carbondale, Pa., has been named one of two recipients of the University’s 2013 Ralph Dorn Hetzel Memorial Award. Passiment is the ninth Penn State Harrisburg student to receive the honor.
Named for Penn State’s tenth president, the award recognizes students for high scholastic achievement, good citizenship, and participation in leadership and student activities.
Penn State Harrisburg alumnus Salvatore D. Fazzolari, former CEO and chairman of HARSCO Corporation, was presented with the Business Achievement Award from Beta Gamma Sigma, an international business honor society, on March 15 by the organization’s Executive Director James Viehland at a ceremony held in Harrisburg. Fazzolari, of Mechanicsburg, was nominated by the college.
William M. Lambert, president and chief executive officer of Mine Safety Appliances Company (MSA) and Penn State Harrisburg alumnus, will deliver Penn State Harrisburg’s spring 2013 commencement address on Saturday, May 4 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pa. The college will confer more than 650 undergraduate and graduate degrees this semester.
The third edition of The Essentials of Computer Organization and Architecture (Jones & Bartlett Learning, LLC), co-authored by Penn State Harrisburg Associate Professor of Computer Science Dr. Linda Null and Instructor in Computer Science Julia Lobur has won the Text and Academic Authors Association (TAA) 2013 “Texty” Textbook Excellence Award for computer science and engineering.
The Penn State Harrisburg chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE’s) Steel Bridge Team will unveil at noon its first-ever 1/10 scale bridge as part of the college’s annual Earth Day Celebration on Thursday, April 18 on the Vartan Plaza from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. The events are free and open to the public.
