Students from 18 area middle schools will gather at Penn State Harrisburg’s Capital Union Building for the 32nd annual MATHCOUNTS competition on Saturday, February 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A nationwide program that involves more than 500,000 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students, MATHCOUNTS is designed to build mathematics skills, promote strategic problem solving, and instruct students in dealing with complex problems.
Penn State President Eric Barron and other Penn State and Penn State Harrisburg officials today joined with David Black, president and CEO of the Harrisburg Regional Chamber and CREDC, to launch the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Penn State Harrisburg. The center will enhance the entrepreneurial environment in Central Pennsylvania and encourage students, faculty and community members to transform their intellectual property and creative works into local businesses and industries.
Penn State Harrisburg will hold a Graduate School Open House on Thursday, February 4 at 6 p.m. in the campus library.
The open house will offer the opportunity to learn about the college’s more than 30 master’s, doctoral, and certification programs; meet with faculty; and obtain admissions and financial aid information. RSVP preferred, but not required.
Dr. Alexander Siedschlag, professor of homeland security and public health preparedness in Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Public Affairs, will present “The European Union Response to Terrorism” on Wednesday, February 3 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Olmsted Building Gallery Lounge.
Wang is working with Dr. Y. Frank Chen, professor of civil engineering, as a visiting scholar this spring until July 2016. Her primary research area/interest is innovative concrete material.
As a part of Penn State’s launch of Stand for State, an initiative aimed at empowering Penn Staters to stand up for one another and stop sexual and relationship violence, Penn State Harrisburg will hold its kickoff event on January 26 from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the Olmsted Building atrium.
Jennifer Hirt, assistant professor of creative writing and composition in Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Humanities, will present “Not Less Than 1,000 Bottles for Horseradish: A Reading and Discussion of Creative Nonfiction” on Wednesday, January 27 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Olmsted Building Gallery Lounge.
Due to changes in the construction schedule, the construction work originally slated for this Saturday, January 23 at the Penn State Harrisburg library has been delayed, and will now take place on Saturday, February 6 and Saturday, February 13. As a result, the library will be closed those days.
Penn State Harrisburg will present a screening of the film “Hate [La Haine],” followed by a faculty panel discussion on Thursday, January 21 at 7 p.m. in 102 EAB, Educational Activities Building on campus, as part of the Penn State Harrisburg Center for Holocaust and Jewish Studies speaker series.
For the 18th year, Penn State Harrisburg and PenOwl Productions Theatre Company will present a dramatic production as a part of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. This year, the play, “Tell Mama I’ll Find Her,” centers on family unification after slavery and will be performed on Monday, January 18 at noon and Tuesday, January 19 at 11:30 a.m. in the Capital Union Building at Penn State Harrisburg.
