Student-athlete’s quadruple-double makes NCAA history
On Saturday, Dec. 3, Penn State Harrisburg senior guard Dorothea Dixon became the ninth women’s basketball player in NCAA history across all divisions to record a rare quadruple-double, in a 91-42 victory over Penn State Berks.
Dixon, of Middletown, totaled 11 points, 11 rebounds, 12 assists and 10 steals in front of a hometown crowd at the college’s Capital Union Building. Her accomplishment is the first in school history and the first quadruple-double by a women’s player in any of the NCAA’s three divisions since 2009.
“It felt amazing to be able to make history, but I really couldn’t have done it without the help of my coaches and teammates pushing me every day to be better,” said Dixon. “Without them, I wouldn’t even have had the opportunity, so I’m thankful for them.”
Dixon said her coaches and teammates were most aware of her approaching the rare feat during the game. “I don’t really pay attention to [statistics],” said Dixon. “I just go out and try to play my hardest every game. But towards the end of the game, my teammates and coaches told me I was close to getting [a quadruple-double] and that they felt I deserved to get it because of how hard I worked in the game.”
Head Coach Ross Patrick said he had never seen anything like Dixon’s performance. "I think it's just amazing,” he said. “Our entire team worked really hard on both sides of the ball and created opportunities, which led to a statistically significant night for [Dixon]. She is one of our team leaders and anyone who has seen her play will immediately recognize that she leads by example, specifically through her relentless effort. She possesses a variety of skill sets on the court and on this particular night, they all came together and culminated in an astounding result.”
