Seminar to explore potential of biotechnology
Dr. Sairam Rudrabhatla, associate professor of biology and director of the Central Pennsylvania Research and Teaching Laboratory for Biofuels at Penn State Harrisburg, will discuss biotechnology and its potential to create solutions for a sustainably inhabitable planet on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at noon in the Gallery Lounge, Olmsted Building.
Free and open to the public, the seminar also will be broadcast live via Adobe Connect.
Biotechnology holds potential in contributing to sustainable agriculture, through crop improvements that can lead to increased yields, enhanced nutrition, better resistance to pests and diseases, and improved tolerance to environmental conditions.
In the seminar, “Plant Biotechnology: Sustainable Planet vs. Zealotry,” Rudrabhatla will discuss how biotechnology addresses 21st century challenges, such as climate change and a burgeoning global population; the quality of science education; and a summary of research carried out in the Central Pennsylvania Research and Teaching Laboratory for Biofuels.
