Regional cooperation and economic development expert to speak at Harrisburg

Penn State Harrisburg and PNC have announced the second chapter of the PNC Thought Leaders Lecture Series, a special event where high-profile speakers from around the world will focus on topics that have a significant impact on the local region.

Jim Dinegar, president and CEO of the Greater Washington Board of Trade, will present the keynote speech for the event from 4 to 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, in the Student Enrichment Center theater on campus.

Dinegar represents the leading regional organization for the business interests of major companies throughout Northern Virginia, the District of Columbia, and suburban Maryland. The Greater Washington Board of Trade focuses on the critical issues that present the biggest challenges and opportunities.

By promoting better collaboration across its region, and by using more “smart city” principles to connect the region through technology, mobility, and more, the Board of Trade strives to improve the quality of life to help attract and retain more of the workforce this region demands.

Dinegar previously served as chief operating officer of the American Institute of Architects, where he was responsible for operation of the 77,000-member organization.

He served as chairman of the advisory board of the Smithsonian National Zoo and is on the boards of the Close Up Foundation, Goodwill of Greater Washington, Junior Achievement of Greater Washington, and United Way of the National Capital Area.

Dinegar lives in Arlington, Virginia, with his two children, Abby and Ben.

The goal of the PNC Thought Leaders Lecture Series is to spur economic development in Pennsylvania by creating a place where innovative thinking can be converted into economic impact, intellectual property, entrepreneurship, and corporate best practices.

“Regional partnerships in the areas of innovation, economic development, and entrepreneurship are essential to Penn State Harrisburg’s goals,” said Mukund Kulkarni, chancellor of Penn State Harrisburg. “As such, it is a great pleasure to welcome Jim Dinegar as our spring PNC Thought Leaders Lecture Series speaker. It is my belief that the college and surrounding communities will benefit greatly from his expertise.”

“The spring 2017 event will provide an opportunity to understand how a large multi-state, multi-jurisdictional area came together to promote regional cooperation, economic development, job creation and improved financial security,” said James R. Hoehn, regional president for PNC Bank. “Through innovative thinking and practical examples we can challenge and inspire residents, students, business owners, civic organizations and government officials to create positive change for our region.”
