Penn State Harrisburg

Gregory A. Crawford, Ph.D.

· Interim Director; Humanities

Biography

Prior to becoming the Interim Director of the Penn State Harrisburg School of Humanities, I served for 22 years with the University Libraries, the last 10 as the Director of the Penn State Harrisburg Library. During that time, I also taught courses on the ancient classical world and on the city of Rome for the School of Humanities and for the Honors program. My research interests are broad. In addition to many articles related to academic libraries and to developing library collections, I have published books on Petra and the Nabataeans (an ancient Middle Eastern culture) and on complementary and alternative medicine. I believe that the arts and humanities have a central place not only in all education but also in our lives. When we can appreciate and understand art, music, and literature and when we can give historical and aesthetic context to events, our lives and our societies are improved.
