Adobe® Premiere Pro® Workshop

Do you use video as a communications tool for integration with websites and social media, or as standalone media content? Are you a freelance videographer and/or communications professional who works within a communications department, or in small organization without dedicated content creators?

This course will provide hands-on experience in the use of the video editing software Adobe Premiere Pro. In addition to a thorough explanation of the interface, tools, and other features of the software, students will learn to setup a video project in Premiere, establish a workflow, and create a sequence with video, music, text, transitions, and graphics. Students will learn techniques for refining the rough edit, and understanding workflow and integration strategies. This course is appropriate for anyone who needs to edit video as standalone media or for integration with other media.

Learning outcomes

  • Understand the function and interface of Adobe Premiere Pro editing tools, file-saving and export protocol
  • Edit a sequence with video content, music, transitions, titles, and graphics
  • Prepare an export file for integration with other media such as a website or interactive document


Catherine Rios, MFA, teaches writing and digital media, and is the Associate Professor of Humanities and Communications. Her creative activities include screenwriting, film making, and interactive design. She is the co-creator of 1+1: Discovery, Connection, Communication, an interactive student engagement platform, and the designer of The Collaboratory, a campus interdisciplinary makerspace scheduled for completion summer 2017. She holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in Glass, and an MFA from Columbia University in Screenwriting. Her films and cinematography have screened around the world and she was a Fellow at the Sundance Institute Writer’s Intensive in Philadelphia, 2013. She has received several awards for her writing and filmmaking, including the Pennsylvania Council for the Arts Fellowship in Literature.
