How to Register for Credit Courses

Download a registration form.

The deadline for registration for most courses is one week before the starting date. Payment may be made by check, money order, VISA, or MasterCard. Registration must be accompanied by payment in order to be processed.

Walk in and register at the Enrollment Services/Academic Records Office, Swatara Building, then pay tuition at the Bursar’s Office in the Swatara Building.

Who can register

If you are a graduate of an accredited high school or hold a high school equivalency diploma (GED), you may register for undergraduate courses as a nondegree student in Resident Instruction and/or Continuing Education.

High school graduates who are interested in entering an associate degree program can obtain information by phoning the Continuing Education Office at 717-948-6505.

In fall 2004, Penn State Harrisburg began offering the first two years of study leading to more than 160 baccalaureate programs available throughout the University system, including 31 of its own undergraduate majors. Penn State Harrisburg began offering all four years of study in Information Sciences and Technology in fall 2001 and in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mathematical Sciences, and Structural Design and Construction Engineering Technology in fall 2003.

Penn State Harrisburg will also continue to be a transfer location for students who begin their studies at another college or university or Penn State location, and choose to complete baccalaureate study on the Middletown campus.

Graduate Students

Graduate Student Status
Students who have completed a bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university may apply to the Graduate School at Penn State Harrisburg. The college offers 22 master's and three doctoral degrees as well as certificate and certification programs.

If you have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and have not previously been admitted to the Penn State Graduate School, and you WANT your credits to appear on a graduate transcript, you must register as a nondegree graduate student, pay the graduate tuition rate, and complete both sides of the registration form.

Nondegree Graduate Students
If you have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and have not previously been admitted to the Penn State Graduate School, and you DO NOT WANT your credits to appear on a graduate transcript, you will be assessed the undergraduate tuition rate, and need only to complete side one of the registration form.

No test scores or transcripts are required and no registration fee is assessed for nondegree graduate students.

Readmission

A student desiring readmission to the University after an interruption in enrollment of no fewer than four calendar years may be eligible for "academic renewal." Procedures for petitioning for readmission with academic renewal can be obtained from an adviser.

Cancellation of Registration

Cancellation and Refund Policy
The University reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course because of insufficient enrollment or for other unforeseen circumstances. If a program is cancelled, registrants will be notified by telephone or e-mail, and refunds processed. Please provide a daytime phone number for this purpose. A 100% refund will be made only if the student’s written notice of cancellation is received in the Continuing Education office by Tuesday, September 2. There are no refunds after that date, but substitutes are welcome.
