Leadership Forums

This seminar series is designed to provide leadership training for mid- to upper-level managers who:

  • Lead others with supervisory/managerial responsibility
  • Require strong decision-making skills
  • Want to refine their ability to lead and
    motivate others

Participants will learn to:

  • Build a leadership style that creates trust
  • Develop heightened “emotional intelligence” for greater professional achievement
  • Understand the motivation and behavioral style of others
  • Apply the characteristics and skills of effective leadership
  • Develop a leadership style that adapts to people and situations
  • Gain insight into the key leadership skills and techniques needed to create a winning strategy
  • Begin to develop a cohesive team
  • Understand and apply conflict resolution strategies
  • Improve performance-effective delegation
  • Apply leadership training to continue growth as a leader through an individual development plan and executive coaching

Program Structure

Each forum will meet for 3.5 hours a week for six weeks.

Prerequisite

Before attending the forum, you will receive a link to an online
360 and DiSC assessment. You must complete the assessments
to participate fully in this program.

Special Features

Penn State Harrisburg will offer executive coaching for participants.
Prior to each forum, participants will receive selected leadership readings to review for class.

Leadership Forum I

Provides an in-depth look at the essential skills of effective leadership. Includes one-on-one coaching sessions

Seminar One

Recent literature on leadership is discussed and applied to specific job environments. Discussion of the skills that make effective leaders.

Seminar Two

Building an innovative culture and leading change.

Seminar Three

Understanding ourselves and others: The road to success. Using DiSC Workplace – DiSC for Leaders.

Seminar Four

Managing conflict and creating dialogue to resolve substantive issues.

Seminar Five

Communication: The key to successful leadership (skills, tools, and techniques).

Seminar Six

Presenting with polish and style and leading meetings – tips to get leadership messages across

 

Leadership Forum II

Explores the interaction between peers and direct reports, assessing effectiveness when interfacing with others on your team and organization. Includes peer feedback and one-on-one coaching sessions.

Seminar One

Coaching basics, including strategic tools for effective leadership and growing others on your team. Individual results will be discussed during bi-weekly coaching.

Seminar Two

Coaching: Applying the skills and practicing the art of coaching.

Seminar Three

Penn State Harrisburg MBA program discussion. Panel on important topics related to business and industry and how universities are meeting the challenges of the new economy.

Seminars Four and Five

Building your Team: The Five Dysfunctions of a Team.

Seminar Six

The Leadership Challenge: Putting it all together.
