Head Coach Becky Cecere is in her sixth year as Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach at Penn State Harrisburg. In the very first year of competition, the men’s team finished second in the NEAC Conference. In spring 2009, only the second year of NCAA play, the women’s team became the first intercollegiate team at Harrisburg to win the NEAC Conference titles in both regular season play and at the championship tournament. Cecere was named NEAC Coach of the Year as well. In spring 2011, the men’s team took home the Conference regular season and tournament titles for the NEAC (west division), and won the NAC Conference title by beating Castleton State in the east in the crossover tournament match.
Cecere is certified by the United States Professional Tennis Association (P1) and by the Professional Tennis Registry. Prior coming to Penn State Harrisburg, she was the Head Women’s Tennis Coach at Dickinson College for eight years where she built a regionally recognized program in the ITA Atlantic South and the Centennial Conference.
In addition, she has graduated from the USTA’s USA Tennis High Performance Coaching Program, earning the USPTA designation of Specialist in Competitive Player Development. She is one of only four coaches in Central Pennsylvania, and approximately 700 in the United States to hold this distinction. During the past ten summers she has coached nationally ranked juniors at the Northeast Zone Team 16s Championships in St. Louis. In June 2010, Cecere graduated from the NCAA Women Coaches Academy in Atlanta, GA.
Coach Cecere has just been appointed to the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Committee. She continues to serve USTA/Middle States as a member of the Coaches Commission/High Performance committee. She has been a past president of the USTA Central Penn District, served many years as a nationally certified NTRP Verifier, and has also been involved as administrator and head coach of the Central Penn Competition Training Center, a national junior player development program.
Cecere is a graduate of Ithaca College and holds a master’s degree in Journalism and Graphic Arts from Texas A&M-Commerce.
